We were looking for a landscape design and construction service for the backyard of our new home in Phoenix. My wife found Diamond Stone & Synthetic Grass online, with good reviews, so we decided to get a quote from them. The project manager, DANIEL, responded and did the measurement for our backyard. He explained to us the materials and the labors. And the most importantly, the grading to direct water out of the backyard and away from the foundation of the house. In the same afternoon, he sent us the quote, the detail measurement, and the selections of materials. The quote is much better than what we expected, so we decided to hire them for this project. While the construction is ongoing, Daniel always kept us updated. We asked a lot of questions during the process, to prevent mistakes caused by misunderstanding. Daniel and his team always responded in a timely manner. The whole team is knowledgeable, friendly, and patient. They took care of the questions and issues we brought up, and the project ends up awesome. When I saw the outcome, I have nothing else to say but WOW. There was a tiny hiccough that the paver was too close to the gate, causing it hard to close. Once we brought it to Daniel's attention, his team showed up in two days and fixed it. How can we not appreciate a team taking care of problems so quickly? We are very happy that we chose DSSG to do our backyard.

Extremely satisfied with diamond stone. Daniel was very friendly and helpful during the consultation. I met with so many different companies, but knew almost immediately I’d go with them because of how Daniel communicated and made me feel confident in their work. The crew was very quick and professional as well. We got new turf installed and it looks amazing! Even after it was done, they have been communicating with me all the way. Great service and reasonable prices.

Paver installation in Chandler typically runs $12–$25 per square foot depending on material, with a standard patio project landing between $4,500–$12,000 and a driveway running $8,000–$20,000+ given the larger footprint and heavier base requirements for vehicle weight. Chandler’s mix of newer master-planned communities and established neighborhoods means HOA guidelines and lot sizes vary more here than in some other Valley cities, both of which affect project scope.

Pavers remain one of the most requested hardscape upgrades in Chandler, and for good reason — they hold up to Arizona heat far better than plain concrete, offer far more design flexibility, and can be repaired section-by-section instead of requiring a full replacement if something ever cracks or settles.

What a Professional Paver Installation Includes

  1. Excavation to proper depth — Chandler’s soil composition and the weight the area needs to support (foot traffic vs. driveway vs. pool deck) determine how deep the base needs to go.
  2. Compacted base layer — typically a compacted aggregate base, which is the single biggest factor in whether pavers stay flat and stable for decades or start shifting within a few years.
  3. Bedding sand layer for the pavers to set into evenly.
  4. Paver placement in the chosen pattern (running bond, herringbone, basketweave, etc.)
  5. Edge restraint installation to keep the perimeter from spreading over time.
  6. Joint sand (often polymeric) swept into the gaps and set to lock everything in place.

Skipping or under-building the base is the most common cause of pavers that look great initially but start cracking, sinking, or shifting within a few years — it’s worth asking any contractor specifically what base depth and material they’re using before signing off on a quote.

What Does Paver Installation Cost in Chandler?

Project TypeTypical Cost Range
Small patio (under 300 sq ft)$4,500 – $7,500
Standard patio (300–800 sq ft)$7,500 – $16,000
Driveway$8,000 – $20,000+
Pool deck$10,000 – $22,000+

Material choice moves these numbers significantly — concrete pavers sit at the lower end, while travertine and premium porcelain options push toward the higher end. For a full material-by-material cost and durability comparison, see our guide on how long pavers actually last in Arizona heat.

Choosing a Paver Pattern and Material for Chandler Homes

  • Running bond — the most common, cost-effective pattern, works well for most patios and walkways.
  • Herringbone — stronger interlock, often used for driveways where vehicle weight is a factor.
  • Basketweave — a more traditional, formal look often chosen for front entries.
  • Material: Concrete pavers offer the most color/style range at the lowest cost; travertine and porcelain cost more upfront but generally last longer and stay cooler underfoot — a real consideration for pool decks in Chandler’s summer heat.

Common Questions Chandler Homeowners Ask Before Installing Pavers

Beyond cost, the two questions we hear most are how disruptive the process is (a standard patio project typically takes 3–7 days from excavation to finished joints) and whether existing concrete needs to be fully removed first (often it can be built over if it’s structurally sound and properly sloped, which can meaningfully reduce both cost and timeline).

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does paver installation take in Chandler? A standard patio project typically takes 3–7 days from excavation through final joint sand, depending on size and design complexity. Driveways and larger projects can take 1–2 weeks.

Do I need a permit for paver installation in Chandler? Requirements vary by project scope and HOA. Larger projects like driveways sometimes require permitting; smaller patio projects often don’t, but it’s worth confirming with your contractor before starting.

Can pavers be installed over existing concrete? In many cases, yes, provided the existing slab is structurally sound and properly sloped for drainage — this is often more cost-effective than full removal.

What’s the most durable paver material for Chandler’s climate? Porcelain and travertine generally outperform standard concrete pavers in longevity and heat performance, though concrete remains the most budget-friendly option with a solid 25–30 year lifespan when properly installed.

How do I maintain pavers after installation? Periodic re-sanding of joints (every few years), occasional sealing for natural stone, and prompt attention to any low spots or shifting keep pavers looking and performing their best long-term.
